Smart Manufacturing Is Coming | VisionNav Robotics Build Digital Workshop with Automated Material Handling

On July 29, in digital workshop of Ningbo Ship Electronics Co., Ltd (“Ship Electronics”), representatives of over 50 leading enterprises from Ningbo City watched “smart manufacturing” production line online. It is reported that the automated material handling project of Ship Electronics Digital Workshop covers an area of over 3,000 square meters and integrates modern logistics equipment such as robotic arms and autonomous forklifts. After the project is put into production, it will realize the entire process of automated material handling from raw material warehouse to finished product warehouse.

In recent years, with the advancement of Industry 4.0 and “intelligent manufacturing”, automated production line logistics represented by “intelligence, agility and flexibility” has also ushered in explosive growth. As a supplier of logistics automation equipment and solutions, VisionNav Robotics is fortunate to take part in the construction of the “Ship Electronics” digital workshop. Without changing the original process, we have completed the automated material handling in production lines through the launch of smart forklifts. It provides a model for the construction of flexible and digital workshops in the peer industry.


According to the person in charge of the site, there are 3 technical difficulties in the realization of automated material handling in the digital workshop: 1) The handling of ultra-long and non-standard parts requires high precision accuracy, and any slight deviation might cause the goods to overturn; 2) Faced with multi-section limit, short-distance and large-turn scenarios, path planning and repeated precision are essential, or collisions are easy to happen; 3) The temporary storage area lacks storage location planning, and the misplaced delivery and inaccurate delivery will become the hindrance of the next loading operation.


VisionNav Robotics combines its technical advantages to develop a 3D automated material handling plan for Ship Electronics, and introduces an environmental monitoring system that assists scientific warehouse management, as well as autonomous forklifts with visual perception and navigation. Through vision technology, the location detection of the temporary storage area at the top of the warehouse, and the transportation of metal parts from raw material area-stamping area-temporary storage area-bending area-finished product warehouse can be realized.


In the stamping area and bending area, the autonomous forklift needs to be seamlessly connected with the grabbing robotic arm. The autonomous forklift must identify the pallet on site and place the pallet in a designated position so that the robot arm can accurately perform ‘Metal parts stacking’”, the person in charge on site introduced that the VisionNav Robotics autonomous forklift have visual recognition, code scanning and self-adaptive functions, which can accurately load and unload pallets with an accuracy of ±10 mm, which can meet the needs of most manufacturing scenarios.

In the buffer area, VisionNav Robotics has installed VisionNav Storage Location Detection System for environmental detection. VisionNav Storage Location Detection System is a product developed by VisionNav Robotics to help users scientifically manage cache locations. Through the camera, VisionNav Storage Location Detection System can identify people, vehicles, and goods in the cache area, and give risk warnings for inaccurately placing goods, illegal intruders and vehicles. VisionNav Storage Location Detection System can also dispatch autonomous forklifts to store goods in the buffer area.


In addition, in terms of short-distance and large-scale turning requirements under multi-stage limit situation, VisionNav Robotics can accurately locate and identify obstacles through 5-fold safety obstacle avoidance and visual servo control, and meet the repeated accuracy requirements when turning multiple times. The stability and safety of VisionNav Robotics vision guided forklift has been effectively verified.
